George Dawe (1781-1829), English portrait painter and mezzotint engraver in the manner of Sir Joshua Reynolds. Went to Russia and was named First Painter to the Court of Russia by Alexander I, who had him paint about 400 portraits of army men who served in the Napoleonic Wars. Several of Dawe's paintings hang in the Hermitage Museum in Leningrad.
