speaking of colleges, i'd been thinking lately about how true the name alma mater is. your college shapes who you are in so many ways. i went on a blind date once with a usc student, and within about 10 minutes he said he'd figured me for a ucla student. i took a harder look at him and told him i thought he looked like an 'sc student himself. and we weren't even trading insults yet. i mean really, it was true. and last night i was at an alumni mixer and there's just something... that we definitely all have. even if the campus is like 35,000 people, somehow we're all stamped with a certain something. i've been considering telling my youngest sister, who's waiting for college acceptances right now, that you'll never quite know whether you've picked the right college. college will be like a parent. you'll love it and you'll resent it. then you'll love it again sometimes and resent it again some other times. you'll hate it for its pathetic idiocies, and be awed by the ways it nurtured you. and maybe eventually you learn to accept that it simply was what it was. i have still to learn that myself. |

i'd be really remiss if i didn't blog about the linux users group meeting where wil wheaton talked about blogging, right? so i went and so indeed he did! i'd known that he was involved in that lug, but i was surprised to find that he was one of tonight's speakers. it was sad though, because he kept making all these little jokes during his presentation, but nobody laughed! i thought, cheer up people, moveable type does run on apache and sco's case is getting weaker by the day! for example, he mentioned that, against all common sense, he doesn't have an amazon wish list... but it's only because he doesn't have a webcam. fabulous! i snorted and giggled until i realized no one else was reacting. then i busied myself staring at the pretty but mysterious ethernet ports built into the aisle seats of guggenheim 101 on the caltech campus. now, at my alma mater, such luxuries are reserved only for the utterly undeserving, like korn hall in the anderson graduate school of management. there's a port at every seat there. |

the picture doesn't look the best, but what raistlin pic ever has? i never liked him though, even if i did read all the first six... or nine... books about him. but i guess the apple of my quiz result just couldn't fall far from my reading tree.
i do like the result for grima though:
