11:37 PM:

you know, ficuses are the stooges of the plant world. they are totally at the mercy of humans' interior decorating needs. think about it. the poor things get braided and their foliage trimmed into cones, cylinders, spheres, or maybe something even worse, and then set out in the blazing sun in the middle of some hot, godforsaken urban canyon where it's the only plant there because nothing else leafy can take the heat. yep. ficuses get no respect.

i've never heard anyone say a ficus was pretty.

monday i went to anime expo in anaheim and saw the escaflowne movie. i liked it so much that i watched episodes of the t.v. show all tuesday long, but i think the movie was still better. my favorite character is dilandau...

9:52 AM:

i read this wired article last month when it came out, and it's been sitting around in my backflip account since... so it's a little old. but it's about the closing of the UUCP mapping project. it's a nice reminder that before e-commerce and IPO mania there was a kinder, more altruistic Internet that was about spreading information, not increasing valuation.

3:19 AM:

surfing around again, i found a royal motto (but from which court, i'm not sure) in old french: "Honi soit qui mal y pense" — evil be to those who think evil. oh, but life is tough for me these days. i feel like a bear baited. just stress and heartbreak all around, forty hours a week at work, and then when i get home on weekdays, the ex. and when i get to my parent's house on the weekends, the family. and no one to tell about it all but you, or whichever of my journals i can get my hands on. and me hoping that those who think evil will eventually be rewarded in kind.
